Everest Gokyo Ri Trek -17 Days

Everest Gokyo Ri trek is an alternative version of adventure that ultimately reaches to base camp of tallest mountain in the world encompassing almost all the treasures of Everest Region. The major highlights of this heroic walk cover the vistas from the tallest mountain peaks, views of sacred lakes in the Gokyo Valley, sights of Himalayas glaciers, demanding Cho La Pass (5,430m) and most fabulous view points of the Khumbu Region - Gokyo Ri (5357m) and Kala Pathar (5,545m). The demanding trek also maps out the landmarks of Everest Region – Sherpa Culture, Namche Bazzar, Sagarmatha National Park, colorful monasteries, flora and fauna and many more.

Day 1
1 Hours

Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)
On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our airport representative. After the completion of immigration formalities, you will be transferred to your hotel. Depending on your choice, you can either visit our office site where you can meet your trekking guide or stroll around the streets of Thamel - a tourist hub in Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2
4 Hours

Kathmandu - Lukla (2,800m) - Phakding (2,652m): 3 - 4 hrs
In the morning you board for a scenic mountain flight to Lukla - a gateway from where the trek begins. The scenic mountain flight about 35 minutes gives you a perfect sight of tremendous Himalayan Range. From Lukla, the trek begins passing through the stone paved trails towards Bhaisekharka and in due course gets in to Phakding. On the trail you come across plenty of prayer rocks. Overnight at Phakding.

Day 3
5 Hours

Phakding - Namche Bazaar (3,440m): 5 hrs
Walking through a pine forest, the trail leads you along the Dudh Koshi River. While on the way you encounter with wonderful view of the glistening Mt. Thamserku (6618m). Passing through the settlement of Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo, you reach at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. Next, the trail climbs through the forests and bridges to reach the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. Prior to reaching in Namche Bazaar, the trail pass through Jorsale Village and while on the trail you will have first sight of Mt. Everest. Overnight in Namche

Day 4
3 Hours

Acclimatization Day
This will be the proper acclimatization day with some excursion around the landmarks of Namche Bazaar – the trading hub of Everest region which is also known as Sherpa Capital. In the center of Namche you can visit the mountaineering museum and spend some quality time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa. Next, you can visit to Sagarmatha National Park headquarter and the Tourist Visitor Centre as well. Beyond the centre of this Sherpa Capital, you can hike to the Everest View Hotel, the ideal place to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. Besides, you can walk around the Khumjung valley, Hillary School and climb up to the famous airstrip at Syangboche before returning back to Namche. Overnight in Namche.

Day 5
7 Hours

Namche Bazzar - Dole (4,110 m): 6 - 7 hrs
The most outstanding feature of today’s trail is it passes through the abundance of plant and animal vegetation of the region. The trek at first reaches to Khumjung where you will be greeted with the outstanding views of Thamserku, Katenga, and Ama Dablam. Next, the trail heads to Mong La-a charming place perched on the spur of Mt. Khumbila. Mong La also offers you the impressive views of surrounding snow-capped mountains and valleys. From Mong La traversing through forests, some waterfalls and bridges, you reach at Dole. Overnight at Dole.

Day 6
5 Hours

Dole - Machhermo (4,465m): 4 - 5 hrs
Today’s trail leads you through many summer settlements and a charming hamlet of Luza (4360 m). While trekking through Luze along the hill side above thundering Dudkoshi you reach at Machhermo. Machhermo is the last major settlement on the way up to Gokyo. At Machhermo, you can visit Himalayan Rescue Hospital to get information about altitude sickness. Overnight at Machhermo

Day 7
5 Hours

Machhermo - Gokyo (4,720m): 4 - 5 hrs
Following Dudh Koshi Valley, you commence the trek to Gokyo village. There are excellent views of Cholatse at the village of Pangka (4480m) where you can stop to enjoy them. Next trekking ahead in the high alpine zone you reach at the Ngozumpa Glacier – the largest glacier in Nepal. You still go on trekking enjoying excellent views of Kantega and Cho Oyu (8153m) onto the moraine and rock that extend down from Ngozumpa Glacier. On the way a head, you come across the first signature attractions of this trip - Gokyo Lakes. Longponga, Taboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari, the three pristine lakes in Everest region, chronologically make you breathless. Overnight at Gokyo.

Day 8
3 Hours

Acclimatization Day - Optional Hike
Though it will be a rest day you may not stay idle. Since, either you can seek a chance to climb Gokyo Ri - the best viewpoint of Everest Region or visit at remaining lakes of Gokyo Valley. You will be thrilled the moment you reach the top of Gokyo Ri. In climbing Gokyo Ri you find yourself surrounded by panoramic mountains like Kusum Kanguru, Cho Oyu, Gyangchung Kang, Thamserku, K 43, Kangtega, Taboche, Cholatse, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Changtse, Pumori and hundreds of other peaks. The view of Everest, that towers over all surrounding peaks, from Gokyo Ri is far better than Kala Patthar. At the right moment if looked below you will bewilder by striking views of Gakyo Lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier. Back to Gokyo Village. Overnight at Gokyo.

Day 9
5 Hours

Gokyo Ri (5,357m) - Thaknak (4,750m): 4 - 5 hrs
In case of your complete rest on 9th day, it will be the day for climbing Gokyo Ri and visiting at the remaining three lakes of Gakyo. After enjoying incredible views, the trail descends down to Gokyo and moves towards Thaknak passing through the Ngozumba Glacier. Overnight at Thaknak.

Day 10
7 Hours

Thaknak - Cho La Pass (5,367m) - Dzongla (4,830m): 7 hrs
This section of the trek will be toughest so you need to start early (4-6 am). Besides while trekking through slippery trail you have to be very careful. The trial you are following from Thaknak to Cho La Pass involves glacial walk with ravine and rocky trail climb. The top of Cho La Pass rewards you with the glistening views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Lobuche and Baruntse.
Next the trail passes through some crevasses to reach Dzongla - another beautiful place with a complete view of Mt. Cholatse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Lobuche peak. Overnight at Dzongla.

Day 11
3 Hours

Dzongla - Lobuche (4,940m): 2 - 3 hrs
It will be a bit shorter trek so take relief.  While passing through the grassy trail to Lobuche enjoy the looming views from Lobuche Peak, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, and Thamserku Taboche. Overnight at Lobuche.

Day 12
7 Hours

Lobuche - Gorak Shep (5,170m) - Everest Base Camp (5,364m) - Gorak Shep: 7 hrs
The trail to Gorak Shep goes ahead through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. While moving ahead you can view the north ridge of Everest along with Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtern, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse, etc. As you reach Gorak Shep, you will find snow-capped mountains looming all around you including the top of the world. From Gorak Shep you head towards Everest Base Camp. Upon reaching the base camp of top of the world you can enjoy the views of Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is also spectacular. Mt. Everest is not visible from the base camp. The feelings of being at the foothill of world’s highest mountain cannot be expressed in words. Next, you trek down to Gorakshep. Overnight at Gorak Shep.

Day 13
8 Hours

Gorak Shep - Kala Patthar - Pheriche (4,280m): 8 hrs
Today’s journey starts early in the morning to get Kalapattar. This is the place from where you can see the wide view of Everest. Your dream will come true here. Most of morning of the day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak at 5545 meters. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8848 meters, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. It will be a tremendous moment in your life that comes once in a lifetime. After taking photo shots of spectacular mountain massifs trek down to Pheriche. Overnight at Pheriche.

Day 14
6 Hours

Pheriche - Namche (3,440m): 6 hrs
The trail back to Namche is pleasant with the views of impressive mountains and forests. From Pangboche the trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the pine forests. While on the trial you come across with Tengboche Monastery - the largest monastery in the Khumbu Region. The journey stops at Kyangjuma (3570 m) to appreciate the stunning Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse. Ultimately, you reach in Namche. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 15
7 Hours

Namche Bazaar - Lukla: 6 - 7 hrs
Even if you are trekking in the same trail, you feel traveling in the complete different landscapes. The retreat journey passes through rhododendron and pine forests enjoying snow covered peaks in the distance. Adding to this you walk through the Sherpa villages' noticing impressive faith in Buddhism and culture of prayer stones and prayers flags. It will be the day of accomplishment of trekking section of this adventure. Overnight at Lukla.

Day 16
1 Hours

Fly Back to Kathmandu
The short and scenic flight makes you feel nostalgic because of the glimpses of snowy mountains. On arrival in Kathmandu you will be transferred back to your hotel where you can take rest or may stroll around the streets of Thamel for souvenir shopping or may explore around popular tourist attractions nearby.

Day 17

Departure from Nepal
Everest Gokyo Ri trek comes to an end today. Before 3 hours of scheduled flight, Himalayan Pleasure's representatives will take you to airport. On your way to home, we hope, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure trip in the Himalayas. Or you can extend your Nepal stay for few more days.

        • 60 days or more before departure      : Loss of deposit
        • 59-21 days before departure               : 50% of cost of services booked
        • Less than 21 days before departure  : 100% of cost of services booked
