Island Peak Climbing

This awesome adventure Island Peak Climbing starts after the flight to lukla and trek continue all the way to the Everest Base camp and scenic view point of Kalapatthar at 5,545 meters high, this allows one to acclimatize well before climbing to Island Peak. From Lukla we follow the Dudh Kosi River all the way to its source higher up, passing nice neat villages of Choplung, Ghat and Phakding and heading higher through cool shade of forest lined with tall rhododendron, pines, firs and oak trees overlooking views of snow capped mountains.

After a good walking through the valley reaching at Monjo village where Sagarmatha National Park entrance is situated, we will check our permits (Climbing, National Park and TIMS (Trekking Information Management System), We will cross few suspension bridges before ascending into well known village Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a unique village with colorful houses which are in U and amphitheatre shape. Namche Bazaar holds busy Saturday market every week together with ATM, Banks, Post Office, Cyber, with numerous shops, delightful restaurants and bakeries. We do spend two nights to acclimatize and hike higher to Syangboche and surrounding with stunning view of high Himalayan including Mount Everest. We will continue to Tengboche Monastery in the midst of forest setting with awesome views of snow capped peaks including Mt. Everest and the majestic Amadablam. We walk to Tengboche where a famous monastery is situated. You are all permitted to go inside the temple premises join their ceremony while praying by monks every evening. After Tengboche leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation behind for arid and barren terrain heading towards beautiful Imjatse valley with great views along the way, walk leads higher up to Gorakshep after Lobuche. From Gorakshep at 5,180 m where the actual route to Everest Base Camp and to Kalapatthar starts, located beneath towering Pumori and Kalapatthar rocky hill, which was a old Everest base camp till 1970’s.

After a nice rest heading towards our main destination of this trip to Everest base camp, walk on rocky moraines and ice to reach beneath the giant Mt. Everest at base camp at 5,364 m with amazing views of surrounding high mountains Lhotse, Nuptse, Lho-la, Lingtrin, Pumori and the tumbling long Khumbu Ice Fall which lies close to base camp. Next early morning we will hike to stunning view point Kalapatthar with Mount Everest at mere distance and overlooking arrays of snow capped peaks.  

On completing this section, we will return journey towards our main goal to Island Peak climbing. We will be walking to Imjatse valley and reach the last settlement Chhukung with few lodges offering exceptional views of high snow capped peaks. We hike to the Island Base Camp and hike to high camp, here our expert guides will scout the area for next day climb, before the climb our guides will provide with full information regarding the climbing technique, use of ice axe, crampons and fix ropes.

Island Peak climb grade as PD + from French and Swiss Alpine system which is widely used world over, this grade describes as straight forward climb with some technical difficulty, long walk and climb on glacier and ice slopes. We will start very early in the morning before the crack of dawn heading higher on moraine, ice and glacier with some technical difficulty in some section of the climb on reaching the summit, incredible panorama of world’s highest peaks that encircles this high summit at 6,160 m / 20,328 ft. The breathe taking vista of worlds high mountains can be seen from the summit including Mt. Everest (8,848m / 29, 029ft) Lhotse (8,516 m-27,940 ft), Nuptse (7,855m-25,771 ft) Lho - La or Khumbutse peak (6,036 m -19,803ft) Lingtren (6,749 m / 22,142 ft) Changtse ( 7,583 m / 24,879 ft) Pumori (7,161 m / 23,494 ft) Amadablam ( 6,812 m /22,349 ft) Kangtenga (6,782 m / 22,250 ft) Tharmarserku ( 6,623 m / 21,7295 ft) Kwangde (6,011 m / 19,721 ft) Kusum Khanguru (6,373 m / 20,909 ft) holy peak of Khumbi-la (5,761 m / 18,900 ft) and as far world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27, 766 ft) with trekking peaks Island Peak / Imjatse (6,160 m / 20,210 ft) Lobuje Peak (6,119 m /20,075 ft) Pokhalde ( 5,806 m /19,049 ft) and many other adjoining smaller unnamed peaks.

On reaching our main high light of this adventure, We will return journey all the way to Lukla for scenic flight back to Kathmandu.



Day 1
1 Hours

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will conduct a pre departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. The meeting will covers trip related information & the collecting your Documents (passport, 4 passport size photos, Travel insurance copy).

Day 2

Kathmandu: Free day for Trek preparation

Breakfast, free day for Climbing preparation. You can do your own activities OR, you can do sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with visiting fascinating world heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as Hindus holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire ( One is in Kathmandu, in patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum,  monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens. Note:  this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally. Meals included: Breakfast


Day 3

Fly to Lukla (2,886m-9,468 ft) & trek to Phakding (2,640m-8,661 ft) – 04 hrs

Early morning depart from the hotel for the flight to Lukla on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport board in a small plane Dornier or Twin Otter, flight offers great views array of snow capped peaks with Mt. Everest as the plane touches down after 30 minutes of scenic flight to Lukla, a unique airstrip with a runway with uphill slope, Lukla airport at present named after legendry climber Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After spending some time here with meeting porter, We start the hiking to Phakding for overnight stop, the trek passes several villages and farm lands with great scenery of hills and valleys then finally reaching at Phakding village located by the Dudh Kosi (river). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m-11,286 ft) – 06 hrs.

We follow the valley in the beginning and heads uphill at above 3,440 meters high at Namche Bazaar, starting the morning with crossing few suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi river, and then reaching at an entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After checking the Park & Trekking tickets and permits, further walk leads on the bank of the river, then after the last high bridge an uphill walk for few hours all the way to Namche Bazaar, here we will have two nights in this large prosperous trading town –village as well the main centre and capital of Khumbu area with facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with busy colorful interesting Saturday market. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 5

Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.

An ideal and perfect place for rest day for acclimatization, We start after the breakfast to visit park museum which houses great range of information from mountaineering, flora – fauna and Sherpa culture and religions, this scenic spot offers a grand panorama of high snow capped mountains including Mt. Everest and stunning Ama Dablam. We do hike further to syangboche and Everest View Hotel for another beautiful view spot of the surrounding mountains above old Syangboche air strip. For energetic people can take a walk of few more hours visiting the sleepy Khumjung and Khunde located on a glacial valley beneath the majestic holy peak of Khumbila the patron god of Khumbu, and return back to Namche in the afternoon. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 6

Trek to Tengboche (3,867 m-12,687 ft) – 05hrs.

After a good rest and acclimatization in namche, We start hiking along a gradual winding wider nice path, maintained by old Sherpa man since last 2 decades doing it voluntarily for goodwill to mankind with small funds and donation from the trekkers passing on this route. We will be walking through conifer and rhododendron woodland, with the striking views of Ama Dablam, the walk further offers striking views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku and Kwangde peak, then the path descends towards Imjatse river at Phunge Tenga, After a short rest here, we start ascending through a nice serene forest to reach at Tengboche Monastery which has a well renown Buddhist Monastery and biggest in the region. This is a scenic spot with awesome views of Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamserku, Kwangde, Mt. Everest and many more. You can visit inside the monastery premises while the monks are praying and see the function every day. The head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here and many believers take blessing from the high lama priest for better success and safe Journey. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 7

Trek to Dingboche (4,260 m-13,976 ft) – 05 hrs. 

We start after the breakfast and descend to Imjatse river passing a small place of Debuche, walking into beautiful birch-rhododendron and pines forest, on reaching the strong steel bridge where the tree lines vanish for smaller juniper and rhododendron bushes, after the bridge a gentle climb to reach at Pangboche which is a great permanent village, beyond are settlement with lodges to serve the trekkers. The trail leads slowly through exposed landscapes with excellent view of  Ama Dablam at close distance, and then stopping for lunch break at Shomare popular spot for lunch and short break, after lunch on the gentle uphill to reach at Dingboche located in the wonderful Imjatse valley. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner


Day 8
3 Hours

Rest at Dingboche for acclimatization with short hike.

A pleasant and scenic place for another acclimatize day at Dingboche, which is very important before heading higher. Today, once again we start after the breakfast and  hike to Nagarjun hills (4820m) above Dingboche offers great views of surrounding snow capped peaks with North Face of Ama Dablam soars high above Imjatse valley, views of Island / Imjatse peak and as far to world 5th highest Mt. Makalu towards further east behind Peak 29. Enjoy the afternoon relaxing or take a walk around the village. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 9
5 Hours

Trek to Lobuche (4,930 m-16,175 ft) – 05 hrs.

Upon leaving Dingboche, taking a gentle uphill path to reach at a ridge festooned with prayer flags and stupas, with excellent views of the valley and snow capped peaks, all the way to Thugala. This is a small place with few tea houses where the Khumbu glacier melts into a raging icy river. We have a climb from here to reach lobuche with passing through a ridge with many memorials of the late climbers, who lost their life while climbing into the mountains. From here a pleasant walk but catching slight of altitude as it leads to Lobuche for overnight stop. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 10
7 Hours

Trek to Gorakshep (5,170 m-16,962 ft), Everest Base Camp (5, 364 m-17,598 ft) – 07 hrs.

This is going to be Highlighted day as we will be heading into most waited Everest Base Camp. We again start with gentle climb to Glass Pyramid house, a metrological station funded and run by Nepalese and Italian scientists, from this spot a small steep climb reaching at Khumbu glacier, we hike further through over moraine of rocks and small icy streams to reach at Gorakshep with views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest and get ready for next venture to reach Everest Base Camp which will make dreams comes true of this adventure. We hike continue toward Everest Base Camp along the moraine and ice, on reaching at Everest Base Camp after a tiring but exciting walk, enjoy the break overlooking tip of Everest with tumbling Khumbu ice falls close to base camp, around high season for expeditions, this place will be like a Jambore with many colorful camps and busy. After a great moment feeling high return journey back to Gorakshep. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 11

Hike to Kalapatthar (5,545 m-18,192 ft) trek to Pheriche (4, 240 m-13,910 ft) – 07 hrs. 

Getting up early in the morning, and hike to a steep uphill to Kalapatthar for stunning panorama view of Mt. Everest with array of surroundings peaks, this will be the highest point of this great adventure at 5,545 m, after a thrilling and breathe taking scenery, downhill walk to Gorakshep and then continue the return journey all the way to Thugla through Lobuche and finally reach at Pheriche valley for overnight stop.

Pheriche a nice settlement just near to Dingboche over the hill towards east, this place with many good lodges with HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) medical post with superb views of Taboche, Cholatse, Ama Dablam. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 12

Trek to Island Peak Base Camp 4,970m-16,306 ft – 04 hrs.                 

After a lovely morning heading towards to our main goal and highlight of this great adventure to Island Peak, located in the midst of Imjatse valley, also known as Imjatse peak, as the peak lies in the middle of this valley, hence looks like an Island. Route to Island Peak Base Camp follows on the path with few ups and downs with awesome views as the walk leads to a steep climb following moraine and rocky areas due east, along the main valley on the southern flank of Lhotse glacier.

Walk follows glacial streams to the snout of Island peak Imjatse glacier, around this end, our route leads north-east to cross a dry pond between Lhotse and Imjatse glaciers, to reach at base camp around a place called Pareshaya Gyab.
A great spot for camping in the middle of tall snow capped peaks, here setting the first camp with other camping facilities, two men tents, mess /dining, kitchen / toilet tents with portable table and chairs. A well acclimatized party in good physical condition can climb to the summit and return back in a day to Base Camp. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 13
3 Hours

Trek & Climb to High Camp 5,400 m – 03 hrs. 

From Pareshaya Gyab and base camp heading higher to set up another camp as High Camp, to make this climb more possible as the climb skirts south-east right towards the base of Island / Imjatse Peak in between moraine and snow clad mountain to a turn off heading north-east and then a climb on a steep grassy area with small rocky steps, as the path sometimes marked with stone cairns to trace the path towards high camp, after scrambling to reach an open gully leading between two well defined ridges where the site for high camp is located, on the left-hand ridge below right of small hanging glacier at 5,280m, 17,323ft. Here setting the high camp with care to avoid possible danger of avalanche from the ice above, at high camp final preparation for the next morning climb with afternoon free to scout the route to the summit. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 14

Summit of Island Peak at 6,160 m-20,210 ft. 

A Big Day! Our main target and destination starting before the crack of dawn as the climb leads over moraine and rubble of ice falls, following the route set by our lead guide reaching high above towards last snow slope, most of the climb involves walking roped together, including the glacial crossings.

As the climb progress where our route needs leads leftwards, avoiding serac and crevasses before a turn towards north over snow covered scree in the margin between the glaciers at the base of main summit ridge. On crossing a gully with stone and icefall danger, a steep snow and ice ramp climb for about 100 meters (300ft), to reach the summit top. The last haul on to the top ridge, often proves difficult due to strenuous climb and most climbers leave fixed rope in places for return descent. The summit ridge a classic which undulates towards the main summit to reach by a final fiddly snow pitch.

After a vigorous climb with rest in between reaching the top summit, catch your breath and relax, then enjoy the full super panorama of mountains the encircles the top at 6,160 meters high. After a memorable moment reaching the highest point of this adventure descend on the same route back to base camp and hike to Chhukung. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 15

Trek to Tengboche (3,867 m-12,687 ft) – 05 hrs.

After Pheriche a pleasant walk with downhill most of the way through Pangboche village. And a short climb to Tengboche for overnight stop. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 16
6 Hours

Trek to Monjo (2,880 m-9,448 ft) through Namche Bazaar (3,440 m-11,286 ft) – 06hrs.

Our Morning walk begins with a descent to Imjatse River at Phungetenga, after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then on the gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar, after a nice refreshing break at Namche journey continues following downhill path all the way to Dudh Kosi River valley, from here with short ups and downs reaching at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then to Monjo village for overnight stop in this lovely small village. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 17

Trek to Lukla (2,860 m-9,383 ft) – 05 hrs.

Our final day of trekking returns us to the town of Lukla from where you have begun hiking. The overnight stay gives you time to explore the town as well as reflect upon the mountains before heading back to Kathmandu.  Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 18

Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

The flights at Lukla operate from early morning to Kathmandu, sometimes the flight times are delayed due to unfavorable and bad weather, as per the flight time board in a small Dornier or Twin Otter plane for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu.  Upon reaching Katmandu domestic terminal Trexmount Ventures staff transfers you back to respective hotels. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 19

Free day In Kathmandu . 

This day is reserved in case of a flight delay in Lukla due to unfavorable weather conditions. You can do your own activities OR, you can do sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with visiting fascinating world heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as Hindus holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire (One is in Kathmandu, in patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum,  monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens.
