Mera Peak Climbing

Trip to Mera Peak is a fascinating journey with climbing awesome peak and exploring least visited area. Mera Peak Climbing itself has a significant trekking route including Nau lekh (meaning nine ridges) mountains and over the high passes of Zatrwa Og 4,450 meters and again to Zatrwa-La at 4,600 meters, with views across Dudh Kosi river valley and of Karyolung and Lumding Himal, and then descend to camp around beautiful Hinku Valley around Tuli Kharka, a summer pasture area to reach at Mera Peak base camp for a great adventure experience.

Mera Peak Climbing has not only the scenic views of mid hill range there is also a magnificent stunning sights of great vista including Mt. Everest (8,848m / 29, 029ft) Lhotse (8,516 m-27,940 ft), Nuptse (7,855m-25,772 ft) Amadablam 
(6,812 m / 22,349 ft) Kangtenga (6,782 m / 22,250 ft) Tharmarserku ( 6,623 m / 21,729 ft) Kwangde (6,011 m / 19,721 ft) Kusum Khanguru (6,373 m / 20,909 ft) , as far world’s 5
thhighest Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27, 766 ft) and 3rd highest Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m / 28,169 ft) with many other smaller unnamed peaks.

The journey starts with a scenic flight to Lukla at 2,820 meters high, which is a gateway to Upper Khumbu and Everest area. We start hiking from Lukla and follow over the ridge of Nau Lekh ridge and passes to reach the hidden Hinku Valley with enchanting forested area of rhododendron (Nepal national flower), oaks, pines and firs trees. This hike is pure wilderness with very small human settlements after leaving lukla in the harmony of mountains and high hills with only the sound of cool winds.

On leaving the tree lines reaching towards our highlight and destination at Mera Peak base camp at Khare around the height of over 5,000 meters in mountainous area in absolute wilderness, here with time to acclimatize and preparation for the final aim towards high Mera Peak climb 6,470 m, highest trekking peak of Khumbu region and Hinku Valley, on the least trekked area, at present slowly getting popular due to its accessibility from the small airstrip at Lukla and from the classic trail Jiri.

Mera Peak climb grade PD from French and Swiss Alpine system, which is widely used world over, this grade describes as straight forward climb with little technical difficulty, long walk and climb on glacier and ice slopes.

Here at base and high camp time for preparation for the last leg of this adventure, where our expert guides will scout the area and provide information regarding the climbing technique, use of ice axe, crampons and fix ropes.

After being well acclimatized with nights in base and high camps at an altitude of above 5,000 meters, starting early before the crack on moraine, ice and glacier with some technical climb in some section, on reaching the summit, incredible panorama of world’s highest peaks that encircles this high summit at 6,470 m.

On reaching our main high light of this adventure return journey gets back through the same route way to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 1
1 Hours

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

Our representative will come to the airport for transfer to the Hotel. After some refreshment in the hotel, Our Tour leader will conduct a pre departure meeting in the Hotel or at our office. The meetings will covers trip related information & the collecting your Documents (passport, 2 passport size photos, Travel insurance copy).

Day 2

Kathmandu: Free day for Climbing preparation

Breakfast, free day for Climbing preparation. You can do your own activities OR, you can do sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with visiting fascinating world heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as Hindus holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire ( One is in Kathmandu, in patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum,  monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens. Note:  this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3
4 Hours

Fly to Lukla 2,800m-9,186 ft and trek to Chutanga 3,430m-11,253 ft – 04 hrs. 

Early morning depart from the hotel for the flight to Lukla on reaching Kathmandu domestic airport board in a small plane Dornier or Twin Otter, flight offers great views array snow capped peaks as the plane touches down after 30 minutes of scenic flight to Lukla, a unique airstrip with a runway with uphill slope, Lukla airport at present named after legendry climber Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After meeting our porter and Guide in lukla, we will be heading into wooded area of pines, firs and rhododendron to reach our campsite in a nice grassy filed at Chutanga a small settlement with few shades and huts, a cattle herders’ summer pasture.

Day 4
6 Hours

Trek to Tuli Kharka 4,300 m-14,108 ft – 06 hrs.

We will be heading towards complete wilderness with a steep climb across Kalo Himal of Nau Lekh rocky ridge range, separating Khumbu and Hinku valley and beyond east towards Makalu area, after a tough climb reaching top ridge adorned with prayer flags at 4,450 meters high, this pass is called Zatrwa Og, our hiking continues to cross over Zatrwa-La at 4,600 m, offering tremendous views of Dudh Kosi river valley, Karyolung and Lumding Himal, as the walk leads downhill to Tuli Kharka on a summer pasture field for overnight camp.

Day 5
4 Hours

Trek to Mousum Kharka 3,430m-11,253 ft – 04 hrs.

We will starts downhill with stunning view of Peak 43 and Kusum Kanguru peaks. We will reach after few hours of pleasant walk through alpine forest reaching into hidden valley of Khumbu at Hinku area, overlooking magnificent views of Mera Peak. We will continue hiking into this lovely valley and through thick rhododendron and pine forest before reaching another summer pasture at Mosum Kharka for overnight camp.

Day 6
5 Hours

Trek to Tagnag 4,360m-14,304 ft – 05 hrs. 

From this lovely campsite hike continues closer to our destination, we begin on this pleasant valley in woodlands surrounding, as the trail leads on a wide open valley with a grazing countryside with several spread out Sheppard huts and shelter and then reaching at Gondishung 4,350 meters close to Tagnag. Gondishung an interesting place with 200 year old small Gompa (monastery) located on boulders in a shade with other prayer monuments and flags, after this impressive place a few hours of good walk brings at our overnight stay at Tagnag.

Day 7
3 Hours

Rest day at Tagnag for acclimatization. 

After several days of good and hard trek, we have a free day here at Tagang which is very essential for acclimatization before heading higher and climb the Mera peak.

Day 8
5 Hours

Trek to Khare 5,000m-16,404 ft – 05 hrs. 

With a pleasant stop at Tagnag, we will be heading into Khare. We begin with few ups and downs along with wonderful scenery of surrounding landscapes, Hinku valley and icy Lake Charpatti Tal dammed with rocks and moraine. From here, we a have short climb and then descend to Big Kharka also called as Khare our overnight camp before Mera Peak. We can stores our unnecessary gears that you don’t need for climbing section into this place.

Day 9
4 Hours

Trek to Mera Base Camp 5, 300 m-17,388 ft – 04 hrs.

We have a short walk to set up base camp for Mera Peak climb. We will continues over boulders and Mera glacier, passing an icy sections to reach at Mera Base Camp for lunch and overnight with afternoon free to hike around and to check the route of the climb.

Day 10
4 Hours

Trek and climb to High camp 5,780 m-18,963 ft – 04 hrs

It is always better to stop for a night at High Camp which will make easier for the climb of Mera Peak climb in the following day, this allows more time for practice and sorting out equipments for a successful climb, trek with a climb across Mera la (pass) to reach at Mera High Camp, located beneath the towering peak of Mera in serene environment. We have free to relax with final preparation in the afternoon for the next day early morning climb.

Day 11
8 Hours

Climb to Mera Peak summit at 6,470 m /21,227 ft – 08 hrs

A Big Day! Our main target and destination starting before the crack of dawn as the climb leads over moraine and rubble of ice falls and some crevices, following the route set by our guide reaching high above towards last snow slope, most of the climb involves walking roped together, including the glacial crossings. As the climb progress where our route needs leads leftwards, avoiding crevasses before a turn towards north over snow covered in the margin between the glaciers at the base of summit ridge. The summit ridge a classic which undulates towards the summit to reach by a final tricky snow pitch, after a vigorous climb with rest in between reaching the top, catch your breath and relax, enjoy super panorama mountains view that encircles the top at 6,470 meters high. After a memorable moment reaching the highest point of this adventure descend on the same route back to base camp and rest whole afternoon.

Day 12
6 Hours

Trek to Khothey 3,600 m-11,811 ft - 06 hrs.

After a successful climb being on top of the world with awesome life time experience, return journey on the same route with feeling much better heading lower alpine and back into tree lines area, to spend overnight at Khotey a small summer grazing filed. 

Day 13
6 Hours

Trek to Tuli Kharka 4,200 m-13,780 ft – 06 hrs.

Continue return journey as we walk through dense alpine woodland and summer pasture with a short steep climb to reach a hill top ridge and descend to a nice grassy meadow. 

Day 14
7 Hours

Trek to Lukla 2,860 m-9,383 ft – 07 hrs. 

It is going to be a longer walk.  We descend back to the high passes over Nualekh at Kalo Himal ridge and over Zatrwa Og, Zatrwa-La, after a steep haul descend towards Chutanga and back to civilization at Lukla.  

Day 15
3 Hours

Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

The flight operates from early morning to Kathmandu, sometimes the flight time can get delayed due to unfavorable and bad weather, as per the flight time board in a small Dornier or Twin Otter plane for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu, on reaching at Katmandu domestic terminal Trexmount Ventures staff transfer you back to respective hotels. 

Day 16

In Kathmandu with cultural tour at places of interest.

Free day in Kathmandu, It is always better to have a reserved day in case of a flight delay in Lukla due to unfavorable weather conditions. You can do your own activities OR, you can do sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley with visiting fascinating world heritage and cultural sites. There are few places that are worth to visit such as Hindus holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Durbar Squire ( One is in Kathmandu, in patan and also in Bhaktapur), Museum,  monasteries, old historical Palaces and Gardens. Note:  this tour is optional so you can visit with place of your interest & pay locally.  Farewell Dinner in the Evening.
